Veterans Helping Each Other
At Veterans Equine Therapeutic Services, veterans help veterans navigate post-service life.
Equine-Facilitated Learning (EFL)
EFL is an educational approach to equine-assisted activities. Credentialed instructors develop the curriculum to facilitate personal growth and development of life skills through equine interactions. Benefits of EFL include:
- Developing a strong work ethic through dedication, time and effort in caring for horses
- Fostering self-esteem and self-confidence through learning to care for and communicate with horses
- Better understanding of the role of non-verbal communication cues in our interactions with others
- Enhancing self-awareness and how our behavior affect others
Therapeutic Ground Work
Therapeutic Ground Work teaches horsemanship skills to positively contribute to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of an individual. Benefits of therapeutic groundwork include:
- Improved balance and coordination
- Improved breathing and circulation
- Boosting of self-confidence and self-esteem
- Reduction in tension and anxiety
- Improvement in memory and sequencing abilities
- Opportunities for positive interpersonal relationships
- Feeling of community with supportive veterans
Outdoor Sports Programs
Therapeutic teaching moments are at the heart of the V.E.T.S. experience. Our Outdoor Sports Programs are designed to do just that; expand our students’ skill sets and also provide a fun and engaging set of events. We integrate all of our Outdoor Sports Programs with our other curriculum to create a holistic approach to life. There are several opportunities to experience our Outdoor Sports Programs. Some of our upcoming programs include:
- Archery
- Woods Crafting
- Axe Throwing
- Camping Skills
- Campfire Cooking
Volunteer Support
Volunteers are the backbone of V.E.T.S. Without their hard work and dedication, we would not be able to fulfill our commitment to our veterans. There are several opportunities for you to serve, either during program activities or in other capacities. Some of our volunteer positions are:
- Stable hands
- Horse handlers
- Facilities maintenance
- Photographers
- Greeters
- Special events coordinators
- Office volunteers
- Outreach
